Sidesaddle is the age old art of riding
a horse using a type of saddle which allows a rider (usually female) to sit aside with both of the riders legs on one side of the horse rather than astride.
Riding sidesaddle dates back to antiquity and developed in European countries in the Middle Ages as a way for women in skirts to ride a horse in a "modest" fashion while also wearing fine clothing.
Ladies
ride aside for various reasons. Many are drawn to the sidesaddle as a way of trying something new and different with
their horse. Some are attracted to it because of the elegance, style and grace it conjures, reminding one of the beautiful
habits and hats women have worn through the ages.
Today a variety of horse breeds including drafts are used as sidesaddle mounts. Chicagoland
